For more than two decades, Nick has worked across live arts, theatre and events. He’s directed work locally, nationally and internationally, and spent eight years in a senior leadership role with the Creative Youth Network. He’s also had a significant career in education, designing training and teaching at both FE and HE levels. It’s this blend of industry experience and educational know-how that underpins MUTI Live – practical, high-quality training built by someone who has lived and breathed both worlds.

“I wanted to support an industry I’ve worked in and loved for more than two decades.”

“Having immersed myself in the live arts and events industry for so many years, I know how much this stuff matters to people, communities and society. Live events are magic, they’re healing. And that’s exactly what MUTI means. But I didn’t set out to create a training company. It was born out of realising there was a genuine need for one. No one else was offering a hands-on, non-university route into the sector. So I built one.

Running a business like MUTI is a learning experience in itself. A lot of my work is a mix of strategic leadership, business development and partnership building. But I also stay connected to delivery through teaching. One day I’ll be speaking at a conference, the next I’m in the classroom – and I know it’s a privilege to have that balance. I do feel the weight of responsibility though. Because as well as providing excellent learning opportunities, I want to make this an excellent place to work.

My own career journey has been anything but linear – not many people can say they’ve been a croupier and tarot-line fortune teller – but I wouldn’t change a thing. Every step taught me something useful – about people, communication, leadership, or just how to graft.

I’m proud of the impact that MUTI is already having. Actually, I’m proud that it even exists! We’re still a young company, but the feedback is incredible. Someone said to me recently, ‘This is a beautiful thing you’re building.’ And honestly, that’s all I’ve ever wanted – to create something that matters for an industry I’m passionate about.”
