Fern’s worked at a senior level in education for almost two decades and says that coming to MUTI has been like a breath of fresh air. An artist at heart, she’s happiest in a creative environment – and loves the fact that MUTI learners are here because they want to be. And whether they join a bootcamp or an apprenticeship, she’s with them throughout their learning journey – and beyond.

“After my degree, I had no idea what to do next. I really wish MUTI bootcamps had been here for me then.”

“As a teacher, I’ve always worked hard to get to know my learners. It’s important because everyone learns differently – and they’ve all got their own stuff going on. So I’ll happily be their go-to for the wobbles, the moans, the ‘what on earth am I doing?’ moments. That’s how I help them get the most from their experience.

There’s no typical week for me, but it’s usually filled with meetings online, check-ins over coffee, dropping into sessions, or helping someone get a CV or portfolio together. Sometimes, it’s just reminding people that it’s ok to change direction. We’re building a network here, so if you’re a freelancer, there’s always someone in your corner – whether you need industry connections or just someone to talk to.

My background is creative – my degree is in art – but I’ve spent most of my working life in progression and pastoral roles. That means spinning lots of different plates at once, so I need to be organised and on top of everything. I think being a mum of three has helped me do that – along with my love of notebooks and lists!

I’m a ‘heart on my sleeve’ kind of person, so I love how human MUTI is. We’re all a bit quirky, we’ve all got each other’s backs – and to be able to grow it together is incredibly exciting and hugely rewarding.”
