The golden thread running through Alice’s career has been to help people realise what they’re capable of. A trained teacher, entrepreneur and founder of MAMA Coaching, she’s worked with MUTI Live to design and deliver a bootcamp that has an unashamedly creative and innovative approach.
“My job is to help people recognise they have more choice and agency than they’ve felt so far.”
“When I was asked to help build a freelancer bootcamp, it was like I’d come full circle. Because this is exactly the thing I’d have loved and needed when starting out. It’s got real heart and character. It doesn’t just throw business tips at you. It gives you the space and time to really understand who you are, what you’re good at, and what you want to achieve. And I love that penny-drop moment when people become ‘unstuck’ and see the possibilities.
My facilitation style here is coaching rather than teaching. That’s perfect at MUTI Live because everyone’s an adult. They don’t need to be told what to do – they just need to be asked the right questions. And there’s nothing better than being in a room full of people with different backgrounds and experiences, and seeing them learn from each other. That’s a joy to witness.
As a freelancer myself, I love being part of MUTI Live. It’s incredible to feel part of an organisation that’s agile and so responsive to the needs of students. We’re celebrating the wins and figuring things out together – and it all fits so well with my own coaching business and family life.
Someone once said to me, “You’ve got a laptop, you’ve got the skills, you can work anywhere.” For a teacher who was once chained to timetables, bells, rules and regulations, that blew my mind. So it’s that entrepreneurial ‘can-do’ spirit I want to pass on to others. And if we can’t innovate in the arts, where on earth can we do it?
