WHAT FUELS OUR ENGINES
Richard Waddington (Founder - First Agency. Director EAAB)
“We are in an interesting time in the Live Events & Entertainment Sectors.
Post-Covid more people and businesses are realising the irreplaceable value of the live experience, which is contributing to the sector remaining as one of the top growth industries in the UK despite a myriad of challenges.
One of the major challenges is the dwindling pipeline of skilled and experienced workers, particularly in event production. More and more young people are turning away from the increasingly debt-laden pathways that have dominated recent narratives about the best way to get into the best jobs. Business leaders are also citing lack of real-world experience as a contributing factor to expectations mis-match between employers and recruits, and the attendant frustrations for all parties.
Apprenticeships and other on-the-job training options need to be embraced as not only a viable alternative, but in some cases by far and away the ‘best option’ for creating and developing the workforce that companies need in a highly competitive jobs market. They open up doors to a far greater, passionate and diverse workforce. We need to think of it as investing in the health of our businesses. Not optional, but essential.”
Heather Wright (Co-Chair Bristol Creative Industries)
“At Bristol Creative Industries, we understand the difficulties facing the creative and live event industries when it comes to recruiting a reliable pipeline of diverse and dedicated new talent. The solutions are complex and challenging.
The hassle free flexible apprenticeships offered by companies like MUTI, enable that diverse recruitment, as well as ongoing professional development and play a vital role in addressing some of these issues.
We all know that our creative industries punch well above their weight on the global stage, but investment in our future workforce is required to maintain and grow that position.”
